How Federal and California COBRA Laws May Apply to Your Business

April 18, 2023by mycalchoice

Federal and California COBRA laws allow employees and eligible dependents to continue group health benefits if they lose coverage because of a qualifying event, including:

  • Termination
  • Reduction of work hours
  • Divorce or legal separation
  • Eligibility for Medicare
  • Loss of dependent child status
  • Death

If you have 20 or more employees, federal COBRA applies. If you have 2 to 19 eligible employees, your business is subject to Cal-COBRA.
